CYAA Basketball is an inclusive program serving the youth of all Lancaster County Catholic Schools and Parishes for those in grades 2-8. Our volunteer coaches provide instruction based upon a program developed in coordination with Lancaster Catholic High School basketball coaches. Overview

Clinic (Grades 1-2)

Our clinics focus on basic skills development for basketball beginners in 1 st or 2 nd grade. This is a great introduction to the game and fundamentals development. Players in the clinic will have the opportunity to learn drills and participate in small-side games (3v3) twice per week during the season. We have two gyms where the rims are adjustable down to 8’ which could be age appropriate for these grades. As such clinics will be hosted at either OMPH or SJNCS gyms.

CYAA In-house Program (Grades 3-4)

The in-house program is organized into “pods” which generally align with county parishes. The intent is to accommodate kids practicing and playing in a comfortable environment with their classmates. Practices will typically be twice per week during the season and will use elementary school gymnasiums. Games will be scheduled on Saturday mornings with each parish hosting on a rotating basis. As we grow this program, we will be inviting some public and private school programs to participate after we determine they conduct their programs consistent with CYAA values for youth development.

L.L. Travel Hoops League (Grades 5-6)

The LL Travel Hoops League is a competitive league that mimics the arrangement of the High School Lancaster-Lebanon League. Teams are arranged into sections where they play each team in their section twice and play 6-8 cross over games against teams in other sections. There is an opportunity to enter multiple teams at a single level if the need arises. These teams will practice at least twice per week. Road games will be on weekday evenings. Home games will be Saturday or Sunday afternoons. Since the teams in this league are arranged by school district, we cannot allow players that are not enrolled in a Catholic School to be rostered on these teams. The teams that CYAA enters into this league will be determined by evaluations that occur during October. If participation in this travel league is not a good fit for your child, a recreational option is available for these age groups.

CYAA Recreational Basketball (Grades 5-8)

It is the CYAA philosophy that every child up through grade 8 that wishes to participate in organized basketball be provided that chance. If the competitive teams are not the best fit for a player’s development, we will provide a local recreational team. The league in which these teams will participate is currently under evaluation.

Junior High Basketball (Grades 7-9)

This program is run by Lancaster Catholic High School. Depending upon interest and ability, there are multiple “levels” available. As of the 2023-2024 season, LCHS is hosting a grade 7/8 team and a grade 7/8/9 team for both boys and girls. The grade 7/8/9 team is what has historically been referred to as the “freshman” team, but could be composed of players from grades 7, 8 or 9. Participation on these teams will be determined through tryouts. If Junior High Basketball is not a good fit for your child, a recreational option will be available for grades 7 & 8. There is also a High School CYO option available for those in grades 9-12 through both parishes of OMPH & STLG.
